WORTCUNNING: Monthly Virtual Plant Salon

Herbal medicine is the original healing system on this planet. A remembrance of this ancient connection is woven into our DNA and into our cultures, myths, stories, culinary traditions, spirituality, and more.

Wortcunning is ancestral European term that means “to know the herbs and roots” ~ wort-root, herb and cunning-to know. One who possessed and practiced wortcunning was an herbal healer, seer, midwife, or other wise woman who held relationships of kinship (cunnen, ken, kin) with the herbs of field and forest. They combined practical herbal knowledge with the magical and spirit power of the plants to facilitate healing, protection, and blessing for their community.

The European witch hunts attempted to denigrate and destroy these wise women and their legacy of reverence for the earth and interconnection with life/spirit. In part they succeeded, much wisdom was lost and an ancestral wounding (the witch wound) lingers on in many that compels us to hide our magic, silence our knowing, and ignore our yearnings.

Yet in many ways they failed because the vast body of herbal healing lore continued to be transmitted between the generations as folklore, which is the repository of “the teachings and wisdom OF THE PEOPLE.” It lives on in the old stories, in the recipes passed down from our grandmothers, and in the voices of the plants themselves.

Together, we will explore this ancient wisdom and learn how to weave it into our lives.

Wortcunning is a monthly virtual plant salon. We will dive deep with a single plant ally each month exploring their medicine ways, folklore, and spirit power. There will be a mini-medicine making tutorial and a Q&A portion at the end.

A true herbalist is one who knows the secrets of the plants. Not just their medicinal actions on the physical body, but their workings on the heart, soul, psyche, and lineage.
